Brown dragons are a type of chromatic dragon. They have a short cluster of spikes jutting from around their lower jaws, and short fin-like wings spanning the entire length of their body that are used for both flying and burrowing. They are sometimes known as sand dragons.

Brown dragons favor sand-filled desert caves, which tends to bring them into conflict with blue and brass dragons. They are averse to taking unnecessary risks, and will rarely seek to claim territory from other dragons. When those dragons try to take over the brown dragons' territory, however, they defend themselves with a scouring breath of hot sand not unlike a concentrated sandstorm. Brown dragons have a particular love of food, the more exotic the better, and so often range far afield for foreign delicacies and treasures.
